Turning Passion Into Purpose Through Physical Therapy

For more than 20 years, physical therapy has been more than a profession — it has been a mission centered around helping people regain confidence, independence, and the ability to live life more fully. Working in outpatient neurological and orthopedic rehabilitation since 2004, along with experience in acute rehabilitation care, has created a deep understanding of how movement affects every aspect of daily living.

Every patient’s journey is different. Some are recovering from injury or surgery, while others are adapting to neurological conditions or chronic pain. What remains consistent is the importance of encouragement, education, and personalized care. The goal has always been to inspire individuals to maximize their functional abilities while improving overall quality of life.

The Importance of Core Strength and Postural Awareness

One of the most common issues seen across all age groups is poor posture and reduced core activation. Modern lifestyles often involve prolonged sitting, screen time, repetitive movement patterns, and decreased body awareness. Over time, these habits can contribute to discomfort, reduced mobility, muscle imbalances, and loss of confidence in movement.

Core stability is foundational to nearly every activity we perform — from walking and lifting to balance and athletic performance. When the body functions efficiently, people often experience improved posture, reduced strain, greater stability, and enhanced movement confidence.

This growing need for practical posture and core support inspired the development of a new wearable device focused on improving abdominal activation, posture, and body awareness throughout daily activities.

Innovation Inspired by Real Patient Needs

Healthcare innovation often begins with a simple question: “How can we help people move and feel better in everyday life?”

With years of hands-on patient care experience, the vision for a wearable support device emerged naturally from ***observing common movement challenges faced by patients and active adults alike. The project is currently progressing through early prototype development with a utility patent pending.

Support and mentorship from MAGNET, a Northeast Ohio nonprofit organization that assists manufacturers and startup innovators, has helped move the project from concept toward reality. Their guidance has provided valuable insight into product development, manufacturing pathways, and entrepreneurial growth.

The ultimate goal is to create a practical solution that promotes better posture, increased core engagement, and improved physical awareness in a way that fits naturally into everyday life.

A Lifestyle Centered Around Health and Movement

A strong belief in practicing what you teach has always been an important part of the journey. Staying active through running, strength training, HIIT workouts, pilates, and daily walking helps reinforce the value of lifelong movement and wellness.

Participating in at least one half marathon each year serves as both a personal challenge and a reminder of the importance of consistency, resilience, and balance. Physical health is only one part of the equation — mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness all play important roles in overall well-being.

This balanced perspective often resonates with patients who are seeking sustainable ways to improve their health rather than temporary solutions.

Balancing Career, Family, and Community

Beyond professional life, family remains a central focus. As a mother of three and dog owner, balancing work, innovation, wellness, and family responsibilities brings both challenges and perspective.

Community involvement has also remained important through professional memberships with the APTA and PTA organizations, along with years of volunteer leadership as a middle school PTA fundraising chair.

These experiences reinforce the importance of connection, support systems, and creating positive impact both professionally and personally.

Looking Ahead

The intersection of healthcare, wellness, and innovation continues to create exciting opportunities to improve lives. Whether through patient care, education, fitness, or product development, the mission remains the same: helping people move better, feel stronger, and live with greater confidence every day.

As development of the wearable device continues, the vision is rooted in practical solutions, compassionate care, and empowering individuals to take an active role in their health journey.
